Victoria Kennar DipEdit
Do you want to avoid embarrassing errors in your manuscript? Or even worse, errors in your published book?
I will check all the little details of your writing to see if it all makes sense, has correct spelling and punctuation etc.
I love helping authors get it right!

I'm Victoria Kennar, a copyeditor and proofreader based in New Zealand. I'm a lover of books, reading, beaches and horses.
I have a Diploma in Proofreading and Editing from NZIBS, a Diploma in Veterinary Nursing (Rural Animal Technician), and I am a volunteer proofreader for Distributed Proofreaders.

I enjoy working on fiction, especially historical or fantasy. For non-fiction, I am knowledgeable in equine, veterinary, and livestock subjects, but all enquiries are welcome.
Contact me with the form near the bottom of the page to discuss your copyediting or proofreading needs.

Testimonial
Victoria went through my manuscript, which was riddled with errors and picked up on each one. She left no stone unturned—from spelling and grammar mistakes to forgotten words and marking up sentences that sounded odd in terms of syntax—she got them all. She also put together a style sheet for me so that I could see which corrections came from where.
I was thoroughly impressed by her work and attention to details. She was also always in contact throughout the entire process, and that is very important to me as well, as it shows a true level of professionalism.

Do you need copyediting or proofreading?
Copyediting is done near the end of the draft stage and focuses on clarity, consistency, and accuracy. It includes:
-
correct spelling
-
capitalisation
-
word choice
-
grammar
-
punctuation
-
spacing
-
fonts
-
numbering
I will create a style sheet, or follow an existing one, to keep consistency throughout your document.
Proofreading is the final check before publishing.

Why hire me?
I will carefully check over every detail with my own eyes (no AI used). When we read our own writing, we see what we intended to write, whether or not that is actually what is written. A fresh pair of eyes can spot the typos, ambiguities, missing punctuation, etc. that may confuse your readers.

How it works.
First, we need to discuss your project and expected timeframes. (WhatsApp, email, or use the form below.) I can provide a sample edit of up to 1000 words and a quote for the job.
I work in Microsoft Word with tracked changes or PDF using highlight and comment. (Red pen on paper will cost extra but can be done.)
I will provide a contract to be signed and a deposit is paid before I start editing/proofreading. The balance can be paid in installments or as one final payment.
I will keep in contact throughout the editing/proofreading process.
Pricing
Pricing will depend on the level of work and time required to edit/proofread your writing and is charged in New Zealand dollars.
